Groundbreaking set for the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago

The Illinois Health Facilities Planning Board has approved the Certificate of Need application for the Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago, clearing the way for groundbreaking in April 2008. The facility will be named in recognition of Ann Lurie’s $100 million gift, and is scheduled to open in 2012. Each year, cancer claims the lives of more than 2,200 children in the U.S. At Children’s Memorial Research Center, physician-scientist David Walterhouse, MD, is studying how normal cells receive "signals" that cause them to turn into cancer cells.
