Special Programs
There's nothing quite as satisfying as teaming up with others for a great cause. Add a little cheer to your workplace by leading a fundraising drive for Children's Memorial. Here's a few special programs your group to consider. To learn more about any of these special programs, email us

- Car Seat Safety: This program works with infamilies going home who do not have the means to purchase a car seat for their child. The program offers infant, toddler, and booster car seats for $10 and offers weekly classes on car seat safety. The hospital distributes about one car seat per day and needs approximately $1,500 per month to cover supplies. Read more about our Injury Prevention Research Center.
- Care for Caregivers: Our dedicated staff provides care to more than 126,000 children each year, working around the clock to ensure the best possible care for each child. Consider setting a group goal to fund supportive and wellness programming for our caregivers. The current “wish list” includes:
- 6 Massage recliner chairs
- 6 IPODs and headsets with relaxing music
- Weekly massage services
- Health Education Sessions ($125 per session)
- Partners with Parents: A child's illness can devastate a family's finances. Your donation of gift certificates to local stores can help parents of very limited means provide a holiday celebration for their families. Donated gift certificates are distributed to selected families by hospital staff. Give now, and note your gift is for Partners with Parents. Or send gift certificates for moderately priced, easily accessible toy, clothing and food stores to: Susan Ruohonen/Parents with Partners; Children's Memorial Hospital; 2300 Children's Plaza, Box 131; Chicago IL 60614-3393.
- Snoedels (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit): Premature babies in our NICU are often separated from their parents at birth in order to receive lifesaving treatment. Snoedels are dolls that aid in parental bonding and development for these critically ill babies. Parents sleep with the Snoedel, allowing their scent to be absorbed in the doll's natural and specially formulated fabric. The Snoedel is then laid close to the hospitalized baby. This allows the baby to have the scent of his or her mother and father close, even if medical treatment limits physical interaction between the parents and newborn.
- Toys and Games: All donated toys and games must be new and unwrapped to best protect patients with compromised immune systems. Read more about how to share toys and games, and review a wish list of items that may help make a child's hospital stay brighter.
