When your child has intestinal failure
The intestinal rehabilitation and transplantation team at Children's Memorial Hospital is dedicated to caring for children with intestinal disorders. Our mission for each child we treat is to enhance intestinal adaptation, optimize nutrition, wean total parenteral nutrition (TPN), improve growth and development, recognize and prevent complications of short bowel syndrome and perform transplantation, if necessary.
What is intestinal failure?
Intestinal failure occurs when a child has an inflamed, shortened, or dysfunctional intestine that is unable to absorb enough nutrients and fluids needed for normal growth and nutrition. Therefore, extra nutritional support is required.
How will I know if my child needs an intestinal transplant?
