Medical imaging (radiology)

Medical imaging equipment

The Department of Medical Imaging performs and interprets more than 109,000 imaging studies each year. The department has a fully integrated PACS system with a speech recognition dictation system and state-of-the-art equipment, including:

  • Four fluoroscopy units that have been specially programmed to minimize radiation exposure
  • Nine ultrasound machines with color doppler capabilities
  • Two multi-slice CT scan machines, 16-slice and 64-slice multi-detector units. In order to Image Gently, our CT studies are individually protocoled for each patient
  • Three MRI scanners, two 1.5T and one 3.0T, one of which provides advanced cardiac imaging capability
  • Two IR suites, one single plane and one biplane. Both IR suites are also equipped with ultrasound units
  • Two dual-head SPECT cameras and individual, patient weight-based, dosing protocols utilized by Nuclear Medicine
  • Weight-based protocols utilized by PET/CT, providing metabolic and anatomic imaging during the same study
