Children's Memorial Hospital is one of seven children's hospitals in the country with an accredited pediatric sleep medicine center.

The Sleep Medicine Center, which opened in 1995 and is directed by Stephen H. Sheldon, DO , provides clinical evaluation, diagnosis, and management of children with all forms of sleep disorders. It is the only comprehensive sleep center in the Midwest dedicated solely to children. Since its opening, the sleep specialists have seen more than 800 patients, and more than 4,500 patient studies have been conducted.

In 1999, the center was accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM), which indicates its high standards of care, excellent facility management, and impressive staff credentials; evaluations by the AASM are done every five years. Children's Memorial is one of seven children's hospitals in the country with an accredited pediatric sleep medicine center.

AASM also accredited the center's fellowship training program in pediatric sleep medicine for five years, making Children's Memorial the first children's hospital in the nation to have a fellowship program devoted exclusively to sleep disorders in childhood. Program graduates are eligible to sit for the American Board of Sleep Medicine exams.
