Research

Research in the division of critical care medicine includes all aspects of delivery of care to critically ill children, including treatment, prevention, and understanding of diseases on the most basic biological level.

Zehava L. Noah, MD -- Research interests in pulmonary habilitation, management of traumatic head injury, and complementary medicine.

Melissa L. Brannen, MD - Research interests include clinician communication, team dynamics, individual situational awareness and promotion of a shared mental model, medical education.

Ryan W. Carroll, MD - Research interests include pathophysiology of cerebral malaria.

Conrad L. Epting, MD - Research interest include cardiac tissue-niche specification, muscle cell fusion, membrane-membrane interaction, and cell surface engineering

Denise M. Goodman, MD - Research interests include acute respiratory failure and extracorporeal support, health services research, evidence-based medicine, and outcomes analysis

Babette J. Horn, MD - Research interests include intraoperative measurement of pulmonary function and perioperative management of the asthmatic patient.

Steven Lestrud, MD - Research interests include pulmonary mechanics, pulmonary hypertension, and infectious aspects of pulmonary disease.

Kelly N. Michelson, MD - Research interests include pediatric palliative care, end-of-life care in the pediatric intensive care unit, pediatric advance care planning.

Ranna A. Rozenfeld, MD - Research interests include intestinal ischemia and inflammation, acid-base physiology, and the role of oxygen free radicals in inflammation. 

David M. Steinhorn, MD - Research interests are centered on understanding the mechanisms of pulmonary gas exchange during ventilation with perflurocarbon and on the effects of perflurocarbons on the inflammatory response during acute lung injury. 

Eric L. Wald, MD - Research interests include hemofiltration, cardiac intensive care outcomes, neurohormonal changes following cardiopulmonary bypass.
