Pediatric Infectious Diseases fellowship training program

Thank you for your interest in our Pediatric Infectious Diseases fellowship training program at Children’s Memorial Hospital through Northwestern University's Feinberg School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois.

Our program is three years in duration and includes a balanced and well-organized experience in teaching, research and clinical training. Primary teaching and clinical training are based at Children’s Memorial, and research training opportunities are available in laboratories of Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine or at other laboratories in Chicago. The program provides education in immunology, microbiology, epidemiology, virology, clinical pharmacology, and infection prevention and control as they relate to patient care and training in the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. The development of teaching skills is emphasized, with fellows being given opportunities to develop public speaking and didactic skills.

This experience encompasses clinical and research exposure integrated throughout the three years of fellowship, including one month of clinical microbiology during the first year of fellowship, 12 months of clinical inpatient, consultative and outpatient services, and 23 months (minus vacation time) of research activities, as required by the American Board of Pediatrics. Fellows are encouraged to present their research data at national/international meetings and to publish in peer-reviewed journals.  After successful completion, fellows are eligible to sit for the Pediatric Infectious Diseases sub-board examination of the American Board of Pediatrics to become board-certified. This program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME).
