Since the 1940s, when surgeon Willis J. Potts first provided surgical care for children with congenital heart defects at Children's Memorial Hospital, we have pioneered advancements in the treatment of pediatric congenital heart disease.

Connection with Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
We are the pediatric training ground for Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, so many of our Heart Center specialists have academic appointments at the medical school, and are members of the Feinberg School's Department of Pediatrics and Department of Surgery.

Ranked 23rd in the nation by U.S.News & World Report for pediatric heart and heart surgery, Children's Memorial is only one of two hospitals in the Chicago metropolitan area that are ranked nationally among the Best Children's Hospitals.

Pioneering use of the Berlin Heart, a breakthrough device that takes over the heart's function for children in severe heart failure who are awaiting transplant.
- Becoming the nation's first pediatric hospital to create a unique telemedicine program, a technology that allows remote bedside diagnosis and management of patients in real time. Since its inception more than 10,000 children have received remote care, and our program has become a model for others to emulate.
