Interventional Cardiology / Catheterization
Led by Director David Wax, MD, and Associate Director Jeffrey G. Gossett, MD, the Heart Center's team of interventional physicians performs about 500 cardiac catheterizations on on young patients with congenital heart disease each year.
The state-of-the-art procedures include angioplasty, transcatheter device placements, septal defect closures, percutaneous pulmonary valve insertions and endomyocardial biopsies, as well as diagnostic catheterizations.
The interventional cardiology team includes cardiac anesthesiologists, catheterization technologists, registered nurses and nurse practitioners.
Dr. Wax also performs interventional procedures on adults with structural heart disease at Northwestern Memorial Hospital (NMH). Collaboration between NMH and our own Adult Congenital Heart Disease Program gives our Heart Center patients seamless continuity of care, from infancy through childhood into adulthood.
