Emergency Department staff members are poised to handle even the most complicated, life-threatening cases 24 hours a day.

Board-certified pediatric emergency medicine physicians and experienced nurses in the Division of Emergency Medicine are poised to handle even the most complicated, life-threatening cases 24 hours a day. The staff provides the expertise of ten board-certified pediatric emergency medicine specialists and six fellows (board-certified pediatricians pursuing advanced training in pediatric emergency medicine).

And reaching beyond the hospital's walls, members of the staff are teaching pre-hospital providers — emergency medical technicians, paramedics, firefighters and police officers — how to recognize and respond to child abuse and neglect. Learn from educational training resources designed to reduce injury and mortality from child abuse and neglect.

Furthermore, several emergency room physicians have a special interest in injury prevention and are partnering with other groups through the Injury Free Coalition for Kids of Chicago to address this important issue.
