High-tech pediatric facilities
Your child's care takes place in high-tech facilities specifically tailored for children and their families. Colorful spaces with whimsical designs and ample distractions include the following. The hospital offers:
- Our 22-bed inpatient unit, equipped with the most advanced technology currently available for caring for immune-suppressed children.
- Our Hematology/Oncology Outpatient Clinic and Chicago White Sox Day Hospital, a comfortable setting for complete outpatient care in one convenient location. Services offered include medical examinations, blood tests and diagnostic procedures, chemotherapy and blood transfusions, intravenous hydration and administration of medications.
- Our Ambulatory Stem Cell Unit (ASCU), another state-of-the-art area within the Cancer Center. Health care teams perform stem cell transplants and administer pre- and post-transplant care on an outpatient basis. The area also features four private infusion rooms, an exam room and private consultation space.
- Our Therapeutic Apheresis Center, offering four treatment rooms staffed by specially trained registered nurses who perform therapeutic photopheresis, peripheral blood stem cell collection and other specialized procedures, all under the direction of the program's medical director and attending physicians. (Apheresis is a procedure in which a patient's own blood is removed, particular fluid and cellular elements are extracted, then it is returned to the patient.
