Medical questions to ask
These questions are some of the many you may want to ask during the initial consultation. Please feel free to ask us anything about your child's care – it's our job to make sure you have all questions answered.
- What treatment options do you recommend and why?
- What is the goal of this treatment(s)? Cure? Long-term remission? If so, how long? To control symptoms?
- How many patients have you treated with the same disease my child has?
- Are there other possible treatments that might be options for my child?
- What do you think the chances are this treatment will get rid of my child's disease – for the short and long term?
- How long will the treatment last?
- How long will my child be in the hospital?
- How will you know if the treatment is working?
- What are the possible complications in the first few months, first year and over the long term?
- What steps will you take to try to prevent these complications and
how will you treat them if they occur? - What choices do we have if the treatment does not work?
- What activities will my child need to avoid during treatment?
